Co-Studio (Personal Project)
Co-studio is a synchronizing filmmaking application for teen filmmakers,
based on cloud storage.
Problem Statement:
How might we improve cooperation for creative filmmaking among adolescence using online video shooting tools?
Opportunity Statement:
My opportunity for this question is to build a service or mobile-device to fit the teen filmmakers’ needs, which are cooperation and safety. The goal of this project is to improve smooth cooperation in a team from long distances.
Project Method: Human-Centered Design
01. Research
1.1 Secondary Research
Comparing Film studios and college film students, adolescent filmmakers have no enough budget to buy professional equipment for their projects. At the same time, due to lacking experience and members, it is difficult for adolescent filmmakers to start and hold the projects.
1.2 Interviews
“As a teen, I understand the headache that is low-budget filmmaking. I have been making short films for about a year now and just recently purchased my first real film equipment.”
"I used to work with two film making teams, which drives crazy. I am a director in one team, photographer in other teams. It is hard for me to organize the files."
“What I say is do what you can with whatever you can get — whether it’s pocket change, birthday bucks, or even pennies and nickels collected in a jar. Just go out there and DO it! ”
Research Takeaway
Adolescence does not have a massive budget for buying professional cameras.
Real-time communication should be an essential element during teamwork.
One person has to work with two more teams, and organizing different files is messy.
1.3 Needs Finding
Based on Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, this project focus on the problem in Belongingness and Safety.
Belongingness:
Provide a public place for young generations who have passion of filmmaking
Improve efficiency for young filmmakers' collaboration
Improve the communication experience in one team
Safety:
Need to protect users from the virus
1.4 Personas
02. Ideation
2.1 User Flow
2.2 Wireframe
03. Users Testing
User Testing Takeaway
The sub-tittles on a personal page is not clear.
The composition of the shooting screen is odd due to the negative space.
Zoom in and out will be more convenient.
The scrolling bar maybe less functional.
There is no way that users import the video resources to create a new draft.
There is no way for users to choose the owner.
The camera button should be available all the time.
Zoom in and out for checking the video is more functional.
The scrolling bar is not obvious for users.
